Globalstar Simplex Network & Coverage

The Globalstar Simplex data service is a low cost, one way satellite data delivery solution. It is ideal for tracking the location of mobile assets such as shipping containers, land transport vehicles including road and rail, heavy industrial equipment and any other high value assets. Data sent from a Simplex device, is captured by the Globalstar satellite network and delivered through the Internet direct to our servers.

With very low power requirements and low cost hardware and airtime, solutions using Globalstar Simplex Network are ideal for long term tracking and event monitoring of unpowered assets anywhere. More unique features:

  • One way messaging only
  • Low cost data delivery with even unlimited data airtime plans
  • Low delay thanks to a low-orbit satellites network
  • Simplex satellite coverage works around the world, including all of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia Northern and Central Africa, portions of South America and North-Eastern Asia and hundreds or thousands of miles offshore of these areas.

Globalstar Simplex Coverage

Recent monitoring tests indicate that the Simplex data network is currently operating at a successful transmission rate of greater than 99 percent. And because Globalstar’s Simplex data products are also designed to work with the second-generation satellite constellation, they are expected to provide customers with years of high quality reliable service well into the next decade and beyond.

Globalstar Simplex Devices

IoT Devices including Globalstar SmartOne Series: Satellite IoT devices allow you to monitor your business remotely and provide tracking in near real-time on the Globalstar LEO satellite network. Streamline your operation, monitor and manage assets, deliver redundancy to terrestrial communications networks and stay competitive in a connected, global marketplace.

Spot Devices including Spot Gen4 and Spot Trace: SPOT Satellite Messengers are affordable and reliable while delivering location-based tracking and messaging in personnel safety management. These devices include life-saving technology, one touch S.O.S. button that connects you with local emergency response teams around the world.

Globalstar Simplex System

Like “bent-pipes” or mirrors in the sky, the Globalstar satellites pick up signals from over 80% of the Earth’s surface. Their satellites transmit signals via CDMA technology to antennas at the appropriate terrestrial gateway, then the signals are routed through the local networks up to our Cloud servers and then to your web interface.  This highly effective design offers the shortest connectivity latency and enables Globalstar to upgrade their system with the latest technology on the ground.

Globalstar’s new satellite constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and second generation ground infrastructure deliver exceptional quality, reliable coverage and high quality service to customers. Their patented satellite path diversity and gateway diversity technologies allow customers to connect to a different satellite or a different gateway, automatically hands off to another available satellite ensuring uninterrupted communication if single failure in even suboptimal conditions like mountainous areas or urban canyons.

Globalstar Network Advantage

Globalstar’s 24 ground stations serve as a bridge between LEO satellites and traditional communications infrastructure on six continents.  This connection provides communications to over 120 countries throughout the world.  The second generation ground infrastructure is based on the Internet protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS) configuration to allow their engineers to continually adapt to changing user needs.

An all IP based and IMS solution uses an IP Multimedia Subsystem and facilitates the use of IP (Internet Protocol) for packet communications over wireless or landline.  There are many advantages of the IP based IMS solution. Globalstar can offer richer and more features to customers, maximize use of satellite technology for optimal user experience, better mobile satellite service throughput for improved data connectivity delivering clear connections on the ground.
